Intern salary does not matter?
I got an offer for a 60k pro-rated off-cycle internship at a MM firm(considered the top firm in my country) and in my euphoria I decided to take it without doing much market research into the market salaries at the time. After doing more research I found that the summer interns generally make 80k pro-rated.
Would it be bad form now to try and renegotiate for a higher salary? i really like the firm and the team I'll be working in but the salary seems like a slap in the face. This is a 4-month internship so I'll be down about 7k relative to my peers.
Don't be so short sighted. You better believe there is a whole line of candidates behind you that would gladly accept that level of pay. Get some experience, perform well in your internship, and if you are lucky enough to get an offer you can discuss pay at that time.
You need to contemplate whether happiness is within you or without you.
Pro-tip: It's within you. At this stage, comparing your salary to other interns is just a road to misery and self-defeat.
