International NYU CAS Econ Transfer: Best Path to US IB vs London?

I’m finishing freshman year at a non-target and transferring to NYU CAS (Econ) this fall, right as IB recruiting kicks off. International student (will need sponsorship).

Given the timeline, I’m trying to figure out how to position myself immediately to maximize odds at US IB SA roles.

A few questions:

  • What would you prioritize in this situation to break in (networking volume, technical prep, clubs like WSO/finance societies, off-cycle internships, etc.)?
  • How realistic is US IB from NYU CAS Econ as an international, given OCR limitations vs Stern?
  • Should I simultaneously recruit for London/EU IB as a hedge? Is NYU → London actually viable, or are those spots mostly reserved for UK/EU targets?
  • If the end goal is IBPE, would Bocconi have been the better choice for London placement, even if it shuts the door on US IB?

Would appreciate honest takes, especially from anyone who’s seen NYU CAS internationals place into IB (US or London).
