lmao! IPOs??? hahahaha NO!

Cash Sales desk generate their revenue by keeping deal flow consistently high... i.e. secondary market=>not IPOs

IPOs are a one-off thing that Investment Bankers are responsible for (primary market) then it becomes part of the secondary market where Trading desks buy/sell the securities

Actually cash sales desks will usually help shift a rights issue/syndication/IPO to institutional investors on fairly regular basis, depending on bank size and dealflow. UBS for example could have one up to once a week.

OP, in terms of tips for the interview, cash sales is all about the sell. So the core skills are interpersonal and communication. Interpersonal: be likeable, build relationships quickly, maintain them efficiently. Communication: be succinct, understand your client, appreciate the USPs.

The material you'll work with will be reports from research analysts, so a foundation in accountancy/corp. fin. techniques would be invaluable, but you only need to interpret, not reproduce.
