Intoxication Ticket

Hi everyone, I'm a student in Canada looking to get a third year internship at one of the big banks this year. I recently was given a ticket for being intoxicated in public (Yeah, I know, bad move) and was wondering what kind of record checks banks did when screening applicants.

a) is it simply a criminal record check or is it more extensive. If it's only criminal then its a non-issue

b) if they do an extensive check, is this something that will hurt my chances at all?

Thanks in advance for any help

Consult a lawyer. I don't know what the laws in Canada are, but if it is part of the criminal code you definitely have to disclose it and it may make it difficult for you to get bonded in some industries. See if you can plea to something else in court. I know friends and family that have had similar run ins with the law and they plead to an ordinance violation that had a higher fine, but nothing affecting their criminal record. Definitely worth it to pay some more cash now and have a clean record.

Just disclose it, they will not care. Half my friends with offers had 1+ (many had 2-3) underage/public drinking tickets. They disclosed it, did their summer internships, and got FT offers.

What banks will care about is if you have any sort of fraud/theft related charge or if you have lied on your application/background info. This is a business where trust is a huge factor. As long as you are clear on that part, they will not care.
