Anything professional, especially at a recognizable name shop, is going to be fine as a freshman. Interning at a local wealth management shop or something like that is great if you can. People don’t really expect good experience on your resume until sophomore summer though (along with good investment clubs and such at school from the start).

I worked at a Whole Foods freshman summer while networking and studying. Sophomore summer did S&T at a low tier middle market bank. Junior summer landed BB IB coverage where I’m now full time.

So do your best to get the most relevant experience, but totally fine to do something less professional. Whether that’s something more fun/passionate, volunteering, or minimum wage work, just keep your eye on the goal of the sophomore summer internship in my opinion. I’m sure others will disagree, but that’s my experience and mostly what I’ve seen.

Thank you! Tried the cold emailing wealth management firms thing but they don’t offer anything unless you’re a friend is what I’m getting lol. I think this might be my best shot.
