Is it Inappropriate to Negotiate My Salary? Entry-Level Offer in Rotational Program Right After College
I've been offered an excellent position at a large, well-respected firm in a rotational program. The compensation is what you'd expect for an entry-level program right out of college, but should I negotiate for more or is that a bit inappropriate since I am still in college?
Any tips or advice on negotiating salaries and thoughts on entry-level compensation would be great!
You're definitely free to do whatever you want but that's a pretty bad look IMO. Large companies with structured OCR processes, like the rotation program you mentioned, often have standard compensation packages for all new campus hires and rightfully so. Personally I'd be a bit pissed if a college senior tries to negotiate OCR salary.

I agree with this completely. I do have other offers on the table at a higher base, but it is in LA, where the cost of living is higher. This position would require me to move to their global HQ out of state for the rotational program. However, I am hesitant to negotiate because I heard of a story where an individual attempted to negotiate for $10k more last year and the firm rescinded his offer.
Agree with PMC. You can't blindly ask for money out of undergrad, but if you truly have other offers on the table there is nothing wrong with letting them know that you're more interested in working for them, but salary is a big part of your decision as you are just starting off and expenses are tight (college loans, etc.)
Frankly I wouldn't dare to. If you've got a better paying offer just take that. As an entry level employee, you're pretty replaceable and HR knows it - there's plenty of candidates out there who'd happily accept. If you want to be at this firm long term you'll need to pick and choose your battles; I don't think this is one you're going to win.

Edit: Always try to negotiate, as long as you do it respectfully and can deliver some basis for your rationale, the worst case scenario is that they say no this is a capped position and you say okay dope.
