Is it okay to ask to accelerate processes for lateral recruiting?

In a couple of processes and really prefer this one firm above all others that I'm in processes with. Was wondering if it's appropriate / acceptable to ask my preferred firm if they would be able to accelerate my interview process, assuming they were interested in my candidacy?

Thanks!

Unlikely. Most firms will only accelerate if you i) have an offer from another firm, are willing to tell them which one, and they consider it an on-par competitor (i.e. not a no-name offer and trying to accelerate with a BB) and ii) are in very final stages with them

Accelerating is basically committing to you (there's usually 1 lateral spot, unlike SA where there are a lot of spots) and they won't be able to accelerate every other candidate, so it's a pretty high bar.

I see. The thing is that I had already asked a contact at the preferred bank to see if the process could be accelerated, which they haven't responded yet. Would they likely view my candidacy more negatively now (given that I had asked about the possibly to accelerate) or is simply asking (but not requiring) harmless towards my candidacy?
