Is it too late to apply to positions in operations?

I just graduated with my degree in mechanical engineering and was strongly considering the transition into a a career in finance. I have been introduced to operations by someone in the field and think it looks interesting. My question is, is the recruiting cycle over for it? And also, if anyone has any advice for the engineering-finance transition, it would be greatly appreciated. I was thinking about doing operations for ~2 years and then getting an MBa/Masters in Finance and then trying to move into a middle/front office role. So far the only company I've applied to for operations is MS
