Is joining a lower tier IB offer even worth it considering I don't want to stay within the financial institution for the long term?

Hey guys,

I am currently in a non-finance related career. This whole pandemic I have been struggling to get into banking. But now I have a good feeling I will land an offer in one of the lower tier firms think BMO/RBC/Mizuho/MUFG. Ever since I had and did well on my interviews I've been sort of shifting my thoughts away from banking. My question is taking a lower tier firm worth it? I don't want to go into buy side nor stay in banking for the long term. I have stronger interest in moving into tech over time - corp-dev/corp Strat, FP&A, PM, Biz Ops. I am just wondering if this role within these companies will most certainly help me get there. If not, how hard is it to lateral to a more prominent bank? I just don't want to stay stuck in my career. Would love some advice.

Got it. Thanks man! Yeah the job I have rn is pretty comfortable. It is one of the top firms in that industry. So if I stay here, I would have time to learn coding, study for gre/gmat, and go to school or an MS in CS. I would just love to work in the tech or even media space in the end. But yeah, if banking will help me get there without doing the things I mentioned above I will really consider it.

Sure, it’s good experience and you can always go to a T10 MBA after a couple years and then go where you want.
