Is sophomore year too early to start coffee chatting?
I know sophomore year is a bit premature to be cold emailing/coffee chatting and my response rate will likely be low, but I go to a top target with very loyal alumni (Exeter/Andover) and I'm targeting very competitive roles that will likely have an equally determined applicant pool. I'm considering reaching out to current IPs at BX/KKR/APO for roles straight out of undergrad and/or on-cycle, as it's never too early to start cultivating strong relationships. I think I can put BB/EB on the back burner for the time being as I don't want to miss the forest for the trees, given that BB/EB is much less competitive than the aforementioned BX/KKR/APO.
Please let me know what I should do, I don't want to come off as a snotty over-eager kid in my cold emails.
Do you even have your driver’s license
No, I could take public transportation to do in-person coffee chats for Boston bankers though
sophomore year in HIGH SCHOOL? I went to Andover and I don't think anyone was thinking of networking when they were 15yo.
senior year in high school...many years ago I would say that's insane but given now that recruiting has moved up to middle of sophomore year, having all of freshman year at university to network is a huge advantage.
...or did I just get trolled?
Pretty sure he's trolling lol
So would you say it shows initiative to start cultivating relationships during my sophomore year right now or should I wait until at least junior/senior year? Thinking of doing some online finance certificates by BIWS or WSO to signal that I'm serious about this stuff to alumni.
Junior Summer Internship recruiting is going on RIGHT NOW for sophomores (2026 grads)... so yes, usually to land first round interviews you need to be speaking with bankers to help get you a formal referral.
Why do people give serious answers (or questions) to brainlet posts like this lol
I'm not sure what you mean, I just want to get some insight before I potentially burn some bridges with alumni by coming off as a hardo with no personality straight off the bat.
Best is to go through comment sections first to "sense check" & decide if an OP is worth reading in the first place
