Is startup experience looked at favourably to recruit into IB later ?

Have the opportunity to work at a fintech startup and a AI healthcare startup, but going to intern for just 2 months at both. Will it be a hindrance to work in IB later or to get IB internships later ?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, having startup experience on your resume is not a hindrance at all when it comes to recruiting for Investment Banking (IB) roles later. In fact, it can be a positive thing.

Working at a fintech or AI healthcare startup can provide you with real-world experience that is highly valued. It shows that you're proactive, adaptable, and not afraid to step out of the traditional path.

Remember, it's all about how you leverage and present this experience. You can highlight the transferable skills you gained, such as problem-solving, leadership, and understanding of the business landscape.

By the time recruitment comes for IB, you could've just as easily either switched your mind about VC / IB entirely, or, more likely (and better for you) have secured further more relevant internships outside of fintech/startups.

So, go ahead and cast a wide net. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. It's all part of the journey. And who knows? You might even find that you enjoy the startup world more than you thought!
