Is this a back office position?

Purusing a position with GS/MS/JPM in the investment bank division but this position is within the derivatives capital reporting group. I don't want to provide too many details, but is this a BO position? They really focused on inquiring about my knowledge of the derivatives market/market drivers and their role within the IB, but obviously there's a lot of regulatory reporting duties that go along with it. Is it possible to lateral to an actual IB position, or is this position basically irrelevant as far as gaining IB experience of any kind?

Thanks for any help

Sounds BO. Also sounds much more relevant to S&T than IB.
