Is this networking opportunity worth pursuing?

I was at a christmas get together with family last week and we briefly got talking about university, studying and so on when one of my cousins mentioned that they was friends with a partner at one of the big 4 accounting firms and they would talk to them if I was interested. I'm interested in getting an internship position at a big 4 firm in the corporate finance / TAS stream.

Is this worth pursuing? I'm thinking about sending a message/email in a couple of weeks to follow up.

Anyone with networking experience think this is worth it? Will it be of much help to me to get a summer intern position and give me an advantage over other applicants? I have great marks at university and some decent ECs but I lack experience. I'm hoping an opportunity like this would help be get my foot in the door easier. Will a partner have any influence over hiring summer interns?
