Is This the Week?

Isn’t this the week that banks have to inform both interns and full timers as to whether or not internships and full-time training are going to be in person or not? It’s going to be May 1 this week, which means we’re within 30 to 60 days of having to rent a place in a particular city… They have to let us know this week… right?

Following. I've been really annoyed with HR because they first confirmed virtual and are now saying potentially in-person. I just want a final decision please

Find some roommates or use June Homes (used them last year) and get a place in the city now. Worst case scenario you are down 6k while having to work out of an overpriced room. Finding a place closer to your start date will be tougher, more expensive, or even unattainable – rent requirements in NYC are no joke.

Additionally, make sure to reach out to your team members. My team is planning to do a bunch of stuff with the interns that are in NYC (bias aside, this will probably give them a leg up – the ones that don't fuck up, that is). The way I see it, moving to NYC during the summer has an unlimited upside and a merely financial downside (6k is nothing compared to the certainty of receiving a return offer).

If everyone is online, things change a bit. But if you have the flexibility to relocate, even if optional, I suggest you do so. Interpersonal interactions, even when limited, can make up for the small mistakes that you will potentially make during your internship.
