First post on here, but have been reading and using the info for years. Thanks in advance for any response you might have. Essentially I'm wondering when jumping ship too frequently is a problem.
Started in a rotational program in Markets at a BB and enjoyed the people, not so much the atmosphere (Duration: 1 Year + SA offer to full time).
Got recruited to work in the BD/Strategy group of a fairly hot tech start up. The opportunity was awesome, met some of the best and brightest I've ever worked for/with and developed tangible tech chops. A new management team was hired and I had a good offer from a lower MM bank (structured as a fund) in its TMT group, so I decided to change (Duration: 1 year 5 months).
So, I took the jump and changed my role and began focusing on investing debt into tech companies that had the profile similar to my old firm (Duration: 1 Year 1 Month - to present).
Here's where we are: I'm slightly over a year in, and a key member of our origination team left, management is not super supportive (or even transparent) about career trajectory, and another good offer is on the table (Lev Fin at a rising MM).
Here's my predicament, I really enjoy the work product, deal flow, and people here, and generally don't want to leave, but I feel like this would actually be a career move to FSG/Lev Fin. As a few people I viewed as mentored mentioned, "You could make a career of it on the originations side and make excellent money, or, if you work closely enough with the sponsors, parlay that into a PE opp. after 3-5 years."
Interested in your thoughts.

My view is chase the money, firms will show no loyalty to you so dont show any to them.
Having said that I quit finance a few years ago and am looking to get back in - so my advice may not be great....
Any other thoughts on this?
Given you already got an offer, i dnt see no issue for doing so. I mean if you are no longer committed to your current role, then it is not working out for you anyway. Its only going to get worse if you stay.
@chronk when you say get worse do you mean my mentality or do you mean my role and job prospects?

Decided to stay. The main reason is that I was given a significant amount of responsibility to structure and execute my own transactions at the associate level which is pretty rare. I've been building a ton a rapport with the senior executives which has made me a lot more visible in the company. With all that said, i've been staffed on the biggest deals and comp is shaking out nicely which may be a lot of the pull to stay.
I will say this, i'm still not totally satisfied, and really think I still would leave for another opportunity. In retrospect, i think i made the right move as it may not have been my ideal role for a 5-7 year career stop at the shop that I received the offer from. Interested in your thoughts.
