Laser Focused Lateraling

I am super focused on lateraling to one of two groups. Is there anything else other than networking to increase odds of moving there FT? (interning somewhere else for SA then looking to changing into this group to start FT)

SA is in non-IB FO role where I will be doing lots of modeling and relevant work.

Also, please rate my odds of switching into one of these groups assuming a get a return offer and the info below.

(did D&I programs at both firms, although I doubt it will help lol)

Group One: Very large coverage group at BB (nearly 80 people). Networked with the global head (meet in person 3 times, spoke with 3 times, emailed back and forth 5 times, and texted around 10 times, all over 3 years), networked with a 3 year associate pretty hard (4 calls, 5 emails, and two in person networking events), as well as 3 analysts (although all were one off calls, so the value is minimal I assume). Uni has strong placement here with 2 analysts entering the group each year (this BB lists my uvi as a target). I love the culture of this group and all of the people seem to genuinely like and help one another. Driving force between my interest is purely for the strong culture and nice people (they are a top group and have very good league table placement - this could mean that there might be more competition for the spots).

Group Two: medium size product group at BB (but expanding a lot recently and hiring FT folks). Had one off calls so far with a VP, associate, and analyst, will follow up in two months with each. Hope to meet up with the VP for an in-person lunch in the spring. They view my uni as a semi to non-target, but they do have one VP, one aso, and one analyst from my uni. The people have been super nice - although a little intense. Driving force is mostly the interest product work as well as the good culture.

Bro, relax. While it seems like you definitely have worked hard to maintain relationships, the ultimate deciding factor on whether or not you get the job is how your personal preparedness in the interview. This means you should be technically sound, but at the same time you have to keep cool and stay polished. From the in-depth analysis of how often you contact these people, you're giving off psycho vibes a little bit. Maintain the network, get the interview, and be prepared technically and behaviorally. That's all you can do.

Having done FT recruiting, I highly advise you to broaden your reach and be open to networking/applying for more than two groups. FT recruiting can be an absolute crapshoot, this is like applying to two elite universities without any safeties/easier schools as backups. Especially since you don't have an IBD SA, you need to cast a wide FT recruiting net.

Sounds like you’re doing all the right stuff. The truth is it’s not that complicated. One additional email/call with this group head isn’t going to make or break your offer. All you can do now is 1) get a return offer, 2) keep up semi-regular contact (I.e. don’t be annoying and asking to catch up every other week) , 3) hope that they have a hiring need. If 3 is the case, you’re probably first on the list.
