For those of you already in the work force, I would like to get some opinions, given the current job market situations, as to what you would do if you were in my situation.
In a nutshell I am really bored of my job, it is not challenging or interesting anymore, very unexciting right now, and I feel I have learned as much as I am going to. I need to move into a role that will help me achieve my goal: sales on an institutional desk or into a role that will help me build a skill set attuned to institutional sales. I cannot stay in my current role much longer or I will go mad!
Business school, I am planning for but I do not feel I will be a lock for a top b-school until I have at least 2 yrs more accomplishments/experience. I need a new job role to do between now and then!
So what to do? What type of role do you suggest I try to lateral to get on an institutional desk or in a role that will help me develop a skill set for a move at a later date or after b-school?
1) internal move - My name is floating around for an internal move now to a desk asst., but I dont know if it is going to happen as there are no open positions at the moment for junior employees like myself. 2) sell side sales/trading assistant - even worth trying to lateral for this? I feel like I would be wasting my time if I contacted alums for a spot like this at a BB given the current market conditions 3) research - thoughts? what type of role would fit me? buy side? sell side? 4) hedge fund - what type of role could I lateral to? 5) asset/investment management - ? 6) something else?
My biggest concern is jumping to a new company and getting laid off a few months into my new job due to downsizing. I have 3 friends in which this all happenned to them in last 6 months.
