Lateral to FIG from non-FIG background

How hard is it to lateral to FIG from a non-FIG background? I was laid off recently with 1 YOE from a MM. It looks like most job posts online are in the FIG groups now. I wanted to make the move because of the relatively steady work flow and the technical aspect. Would appreciate any inputs.

OP, FIG is pretty broad but your prep shouldn’t be too difficult. If you get an interview, no one is going to expect you to know every detail of this vast industry. But it’s fair to expect you know the following:

1. How to think about FIG business, including important line items, growth levers, and risk

2. Understand how to both conceptually create models and how they are actually created and the work that leads to making them (read: network)

3. Having a view on FIG and the competitive and macro environment, including trends

Lastly, you should have a genuine interest in the industry. So many people just the take financial services industry for granted but our modern society  ceases to exist without it. Things go upside down pretty quickly without functioning banking, capital markets, insurance, and payments. It’s also macro driven, and for me at least, it makes the industry more intellectually stimulating.
