LinkedIn notify network of new position?

What do you guys think about notifying your network when you get a new position? In some ways it just feels like your bragging about your “investment banking analyst” position. But also I’ve worked hard for this shit. Do I notify my network or turn it off?

To be honest, the most baller linkedin title I’ve seen is an Associate at a MF who is really a Partner that didn’t give a f about updating.

Turned it off even as an intern. Assuming you have 500+ connections, that is simply too many folks to share anything with.

Hyped about your new position? Have a few calls with friends and family, but your entire professional network does not need to see a blurb on your new job. Only exception would be if it is somehow advantageous to you. Say you have a huge network of PE professionals at a senior level and have switched back to IB at like the VP / MD level. Then it might be worthwhile as it allows your network to keep you in mind. Switching from Analyst 2 to Associate 1 at a new bank? Probably not necessary.

What benefit is there to keeping it on? I personally am not one to draw unnecessary attention to myself.

Just share it with your network, who cares. You worked hard for your new job.

The one thing I would advocate against is writing one of those “I’m so grateful to starting a new job as…” - those posts are annoying as shit and usually the people posting them do not have very impressive jobs. But I think it’s perfectly fine to share your job title update with your network.

I don't understand, I haven't posted yet since I am still in my sophomore internship, but I was planning on posting my next summer offer as this internship is about to end. What is wrong with posting on LinkedIn, regardless of big connection pool or not? I mean, won't this just bring more eyes to your LinkedIn, inevitably increasing your network pool...which is the whole purpose of LinkedIn? I have no clue, but from what I have learned and was told, always stay in contact with your connections, always ask for more people to speak to...basically NETWORK NETWORK NETWORK lol. So, won't more people want to genuinely talk since now I actually have an offer within IB?

Its a good way to notify people in your network about what you're doing.

Either that or call up 50 people to randomly blurb out that you got an internship, I know which one I prefer

Bro why do you have Linkedin for? Is a SOCIAL MEDIA! If people follow you is because they are interested in what are you up to, not to your account to be inactive for a decade.

This forum is kinda toxic criticizing Linkedin publications, they are normal and good, nothing wrong about them. Is a platform to share your achievements, whatever YOU THINK is an achievement. That can even be scoring an amazing grade in a course you were not good at throughout your life, idk
