Looking for advice on new position

Hello fellow monkeys, I am looking for some advice for my current scenario. I am a software developer working in finance for a about 2.5 years at a current broker/dealer on long island. I have recently interviewed in the city with two places. One is a medium size investment bank and the other is a tiger cub hedge fund. I currently have a great offer from the investment bank and just finished the final round with the tiger cub that went really well. After speaking to my recruiter the following day, I was told that the tiger cub might not be able to beat the base on my current offer because they have another candidate that they also like but that individual would be cheaper, my recruiter asked if I would still be interested and I said yes. My current gut instinct tells me that even if the tiger cub cant beat or match my current offer that i still want to take it due to fact that there is a lot of potential to grow there and that a place like that doesn't always look to open its doors and hire new people so it would be chance that may never come again (they tend to keep a smaller boutique size environment) as oppose to the investment bank. What do you guys think? is my thought process a good one? any advice is appreciated, since I am looking to make the right move since this is my first break through into the city financial market. Thanks!

First off, congrats on having the luxury of choosing between those two.

I'd go with your gut and take the tiger cub position. As many have said on this forum, the starting salary your first few years isn't that big of a deal and shouldn't sway your decision too much. I'd think, being a tiger cub, it'd afford you much better opportunities in the future as well as giving you better experience while you're there.
