Its alot about dedication and drive. I graduated Kennesaw State University (2nd largest school in GA) very much Non-Target but I will be at FT at a BB in a couple of months. I worked hard building my resume and networking.

You give me a gift? *BAM* Thank you note! You invite me somewhere? *POW* RSVP! You do me a favor? *WHAM* Favor returned! Do not test my politeness.

Proppers on that. My niece graduated from Kennesaw State in 2001 so I'm feelin' the pride. I honestly would never in a million years have thought that a KSU grad could have gotten on with a BB, but congrats.

Thanks alot. I bet I will be the only KSU person in the bank. People told me it was nearly impossible but I never gave up.

Be a doorman. A fried of mine did it in NYC, made 15-18 hour.

looking for that pick-me-up to power through an all-nighter?

Dude, if you really 'need' the money then you won't shun the idea of retail out of hand. A lot of people have had to work shitty jobs at one point or another. Its called doing what you have to do. Suck it up.

So your GPA reflects 1 semester of college so far and have you even taken any classes towards your major yet? While I'm sure a lot of people appreciate your drive, you really need to turn to your career center for a freshman summer internship. If that doesn't work, you may need to hit up your parents' friends and friends' parents in order to secure something non-retail. If you're trying to maximize your paycheck, go work at a restaurant.

I second the motion. Props to the blue chip ivy grads.....but then again, they don't need this as much as some of us who weren't.......

Lol, its funny you say that because somebody PM'd me last night asking how I did it. Its a long story, it honestly involves adding recruiters on linkedin (asking NOT begging what do they look for in a candidate, best time to apply, etc....) My cover letter was inpecible, i brought up the fact that I know I don't go to a target school but I explained how i've been a leader in every internship, project, team i've ever been on. AND TO ADD EVEN MORE OF A TWIST.....I'm not a finance major! I was management information systems but in my sophmore year after my first internship at an investment bank I fell in love with finance. I didn't want to change my major and spend a couple of extra semesters in college...........(story is kinda long so i'll stop here) But fast forward to the end Signed my offer letter to in many eyes the best BB (not saying any names)

i think someone like you would benefit from working retail or fast food. You can even say you have leadership experience if you become a manager. But seriously though if your going to come on here and expect something to be given to you your crazy, high, a little of both or just plain stupid. So how about you leave the safety of your dorm room, or your childhood bedroom, and go fill out applications and look for a job, you might actually get one.....

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

Find your way into a PWM internship, thats how most of us started out. It will be a good foundation for sophomore+ internships.

Most during the school year are unpaid but they pay summer interns sometimes as well
