Need Advice for an Internal Wholesaler Job I Don’t Really Want

Hey guys - per the title, I have a bit of a dilemma.

Some background: I graduated in Dec 2025 with a bachelor’s in business from a non-target, having done a research internship and a client solutions internship, with a GPA just over a 3.0 (transfer from CS). My main interests in finding a job were investment management, alternative investments (mostly private credit and private equity), or corporate dev. As a safety net, I applied to internal wholesaler roles in case I came up short, having been exposed to the role during my client solutions internship. Frankly, I’ve worked sales and fundraising jobs to make ends meet while in college but didn’t really enjoy being on the phones all day - just the meeting new people part.

A month before I graduated, I secured an offer at a top 10 AM firm in a LCOL city (would have to move out of NYC) as an internal wholesaler. Having no other offers and being in the pipeline with other firms for the same role, I decided to take it and study for the CFA in my spare time (currently studying for level II).

So, now that this role starts in a few months, what do I do now? I’m not sure if studying for the CFA will help me lateral. Should I do a year at this firm and then get an MBA? Or network and then lateral? Not sure where to go from here… would really appreciate some advice.

What really also grinds my gears about this role is that there’s no analytical part. I was a part of my school’s student managed investment fund and loved modeling and looking into financial statements for hours (but writing the research report always felt boring).
