Need Help (Student Athlete)

Hi everyone,

Just to give a background about myself, I am a student athlete at a non target school in the midwest. I am currently a 4th year senior and will have an extra semester to complete my eligibility in the fall of 2016. I am also a finance major with a minor in agricultural economics.

Due to the nature of my sport my summer months are occupied and I do not have the ability to work an internship. Because I cannot work an internship I have been developing some anxiety over the future. I have been in contact with some employers, however I am not sure which career path I would enjoy the most. I want a career that does not get monotonous and does not get boring.

I have thought about getting my CFA after graduation or possibly getting into IB or consulting.

Does anyone have any advice to someone in my position?

read as much as you can on different forums to learn about different careers - AM, S&T, IB, consulting. and see if they are good fits for you. Interview and network everywhere - interviewing can actually help you narrow down what you want as well as the firm determining if you're a good fit

network and cold call for a spring 2016 internship once you graduate in the fall. describe your situation as an athlete. people are always empathetic. try to get an internship for summer 2016 - at least part-time. you can do it if you really want to - trust me. it just makes for a really busy summer - this could also mean extreme networking. a part-time internship could mean 2 days a week btw, any experience (paid or unpaid) helps.

here's a good start basic start for fit: http://news.efinancialcareers.com/uk-en/201512/ultimate-investment-bank…
