Need Internship Advice

Hi everyone, I am looking for some internship advice. I know no one likes to hear about people struggling with a great dilemma such as deciding between two internships, so let me preface this, I realize I am in a great position. I just really have no one to advise me. My father is a farmer and has no idea about the finance world, and the same goes for most of my friends and family. I just really have no one to go to for advice on a career in banking.

With that said I have become interested in commercial banking, and landed an internship with a top 15 bank in the U.S. in commercial banking. I was pretty much dead set on accepting the opportunity. Then, I received another offer for a Risk Management position at a BB Bank in the city where I go to college. The risk management position pays $10/hr more than the commercial banking internship, and I wouldn't have to move and find someone to sublease my room for the summer. It logistically makes a lot more sense to take the Risk Management position, but after reading several forums, I have become worried about the possible exit opportunities from a middle office role. I do not want to be stuck in a middle office role forever, as I have aspirations to become a relationship manager in commercial banking. I was wondering if it would be difficult to find another position in commercial banking after a summer spent in risk management at a BB bank over the summer. I would also like to possibly work for a larger bank than the one I have a current internship offer for, but, I shouldn't be complaining. It is a great opportunity. I am currently a junior in college, so I would be looking for a full-time offer after this summer.

Again any advice it greatly, greatly appreciated because I have relatively no one to turn to for knowledgable advice haha.

Thank you very much for the response. That is what I am leaning towards; I was just caught off guard with the pay at the risk management position and thought it was a better opportunity than I first believed.

I agree that I was a bit surprised to with what u listed but my thinking was also that

a) if ur not interested in risk then you’re not going to like it and like u mentioned, it’s exit oops don’t align with ur goals

&

b) given that it’s only an internship I believe that commercial banking internship might be more beneficial for FT recruitment or lateraling after 1 year to a top bank and at a top bank, I would assume Commercial bank comp would be in line with risk or maybe higher
