Hey everyone, I’m currently undergoing a background check at a bank and it seems I may have accidentally misrepresented something on my resume for a job that I left ~5-10 years ago. Basically, I was excused abruptly as an equity salesperson with less than a year on the job.
Unfortunately, I failed to note this in my background check form and it’s now being flagged.
I also left this job off of my resume, making more room for other experiences where I had spent more time (I’ve been working for nearly 15 years).
Is this a big deal? I don’t think so, but I am worried about the optics.
If it has been flagged, you need to answer truthfully. Omitting something from your resume is not a problem as long as you didn't cover over it with something else (ie lie about a longer employment elsewhere to cover that timeframe). I would definitely not give two week notice wherever you're currently employed until you pass the background check and get the all clear from the new firm. Did anything go on your FINRA record when you were "excused abruptly." You may also need to answer why you were excused.
