Networking calls

Looking for some advice on this. Had my first call yesterday with an alum at a very small shop (~12 total headcount). I think I made a good impression and came off as likable and somewhat knowledgeable but I am scared because the call felt more like an interview rather than a conversation. I kinda asked non-linear questions they were sort of out random that didn’t specifically relate to what we were talking about at a certain point during the call. Anyone have any tips to be more organic and have more natural conversation like networking calls

Just practice dude. You’ve had one call. Also as long as you weren’t being weird it’s totally fine - sounds like you did good.

Write down a rough script of questions to ask

Practice makes perfect. You ideally want to be doing dozens of these, just keep doing a few more and you will get better. Also non-linear questions is fine, at the end of the day this is a 30 min phone call with a stranger and it's not going to flow perfectly every single time. Try to truly listen and if they say something interesting, be interested and ask about that, but it's really just a practice thing,
