Networking Referrals???

I've had a couple of networking calls with various junior employees. Most of my calls go well, and I form a general connection/friendship with the junior banker. They usually offer to refer me to someone in their group but don't specify a name ("my analyst may know more. follow up with me and I'll put you in touch" or "I have a friend that's a couple of years older, I'll put you in touch with her if you follow up). How should I follow up/thank you with these contacts?

I've seen some people say, "Is there someone that you recommend I speak with." The problem I see with that is they already offered to recommend me to someone. I don't know how not to sound pushing when following up about it.

Call me antisocial or not deserving of a referral in the first place if you want. But I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

You are overthinking this. When they say follow up in this context think of it as if they are asking you to remind them of putting you in contact with that person. Send a regular thank you email and then add "I would love to reach out to (persons name) as you mentioned they would be a great resource. What would be the best way to contact them?" Or something along those lines.

Sounds like you got a good grip on networking, just don't overthink it.
