Networking Through Work Email?

Hi everyone,

Start my new FAANG gig next week & am looking to actively expand my network to be as large as possible - other tech ppl, finance, IB, whatever.

I think for cold emailing my response rate would be much higher using my @FAANG email account as opposed to just using my personal gmail account.

Any reasons to not do this?

Appreciate any thoughts.

Nah brah, just use the gmail.

Ah, swinging from the trees of the corporate jungle, I see! Networking is key, but here's the scoop based on the most helpful WSO content:

  • Professionalism: Using your work email for personal networking might not be seen as professional. It's generally expected that your work email is for, well, work-related communications.

  • Privacy Concerns: Your work email is likely monitored by your employer. So, if you're reaching out to expand your personal network, you might not want your employer to have a log of that.

  • Conflict of Interest: If you're networking with individuals across different industries, it could be seen as a conflict of interest, especially if you're reaching out to competitors or those in sensitive positions.

  • Company Policy: Most companies have policies about the appropriate use of work email. It's a good idea to check those out before you start firing off emails.

  • Longevity: Your FAANG email is only yours as long as you're with the company. Personal contacts should be maintained through a personal email that won't change if you switch jobs.

Remember, your personal brand is like a banana – it's best when it's not bruised by professional faux pas. Keep it clean and use a personal email for networking. It's the smart move, and it keeps you swinging in the right direction!
