Networking with other schools' alums

Hey guys,

For some background, I'm currently a rising junior at a target school who is going through SA 2021 recruiting right now. Right now, I'm interested in applying for certain back-office positions because I genuinely am interested in these positions and plus I'm not nearly as competitive for FO roles (~3.5 GPA at target).

The thing is that since my school is a target, most alums go into FO roles. Given that I'm currently targeting BO roles, should I network with people from other schools (non targets) that are in BO positions? How effective would this be since there is less connection?

Thanks!
