Next Steps to Take?
Looking for a little guidance from those of you who have experience with what I'm going through or could provide a little insight...
I'm a junior economics major and finance major and a mildly decent public school. My GPA is mediocre by WS standards--a 3.15 overall, or, what I generally list, a 3.45 major/minor GPA. I really didn't know what I wanted to do as far as careers went until last semester when I really started to immerse myself in corporate finance and markets, etc...
But, I'll get on to the more important (relevant) stuff... I applied to several IBs--BarCap, SunTrust RH, Citi, etc.-- for summer analyst positions and wasn't very optimistic and it turns I was spot on, the only one I haven't heard from is SunTrust RH, and I'm guessing it's too late (right?).
I have a summer internship already lined up with Commonwealth Financial Network, so it's not like I'm completely SOL, but I just wanted to know from you guys what I should start doing. I know financial advisory isn't really a fast track to an analyst position at a BB, but what do I need to do to get there? Network like hell? Cold call?
Thanks in advance.
Let me add that I'm also looking to stay in the Southeast for a career, thus my attraction to STRH, BarCap, etc.
crosses fingers and hopes someone from STRH reads this
I had an Asset Management internship before I got an internship in IB and eventually an offer. I would get your resume updated asap after your internship and try and spin everything to sound like equity research, analytical, or client exposure. Then I would just cold call/email like. I would start by teeing up an email and blast that out to as many companies as possbile. After a few weeks starting blasting the cold calls out.
