No degree, how to break into finance?
Hey guys, basically I'm a 24 years old guy from London with no degree or work experience (in finance) looking to break into corporate finance, how would I go about doing this?
I have good enough grades to get into a target/semi target university to study something moderately quantitative but I'd really prefer not to, I was studying economics at university before but dropped out due to family problems + really disliking the course, if there was no option but to go back to university I'd probably study something like comp sci as I enjoy coding and did fairly well in maths (at least in exams).
Anyways, is it possible for me to break into corporate finance with no degree, for example through an audit/consulting apprenticeship at the big 4 or a regular accounting job, as I'd really prefer not to go back to university and would rather start working straight away?

While it's possible to do a big 4 (or tbh even tier 2) apprenticeship and get into corporate finance, you are going to have exponentially more doors open if you do a degree.
If you enjoy coding, why the hell do you want to go into corp fin? I feel like tech in general is far more accepting of diverse backgrounds as long as you can get stuff done (I could be wrong though).
Do you think going back to university to study comp sci or something similar would be a better route into corp finance over taking an apprenticeship in accounting/consulting? Only problem with going back to university is that I'd be 28/29 by the time I finished studying. Also for why corp finance, it seems like a more interesting and stable career path compared to tech, especially in ldn for someone with no degree. Thanks for your reply, appreciate it.
Finance is pretty degree agnostic as long as you can demonstrate interest.
You need a degree first and do internships in the summers - it is the way.
How are you 24 with no degree? What have you been doing -
I was at university(LSE) but I dropped out due to family issues + really disliked the course, since then I've been working in a restaurant in the evenings whilst learning to code in the morning. Really screwed up my life by dropping out of university, regret it big time. I'm just trying to find any way to break into finance at the moment.
What was it exactly you disliked about your course?
Im conscious you mentioned LSE and honestly LSE Econ is a different beast even compared to other top Econ courses
CorpFin is just one of those super traditional paths. You have to tick the boxes to get in (uni, internships...). I would look into VCs/RE, they're more flexible and accept people from more non-traditional backgrounds. You'll also make super good money there!
