No word one week after interview--screwed?

I went through first round interviews for an associate position at a boutique bank in NYC last Thursday, right before the July 4th weekend, and haven't heard back. Most curiously, my alumni contact at the bank hasn't responded, and he was very communicative leading up to the interviews. I'm thinking he either doesn't want to get tangled in the decision process, he's on vacation, or just plain busy.

Any thoughts? I know a one week lapse in time is not usually a good sign.

Banks were closed Monday, giving them two business days to figure their shit out - that's if everyone was around/able to meet, etc. I'd give it another day and then follow up; you don't want to come off as an eager beaver but not disinterested, either. Good luck.

Same situation with me. It's now 10 days since I went in for a 2nd round and haven't heard anything since. I emailed HR this past Tuesday and didn't receive anything back either. Looks like I was dinged.

This kinda thing has happened to me before, I literally met with 12 people - 5 rounds, nailed each interview, and I never heard back. I only formally found out I didn't get the job when I called HR about another role and mentioned it. Needless to say I don't think theres an excuse for this kind of behavior, nobody is that busy and nobody is that impt despite what people think. It's easy to write a 2 sentence email that you can send to each dinged candidate....

I generally view two weeks as the barrier, if you dont hear by then, I just assume its over..

I think it's pathetic when people don't have the decency to at least send a generic letter.

don't email, phone them. I use tat all the time and it works. And if it is a negative response ask for feedback, if HR tells you you are a fit but there was a better candidate or something along those lines, then keep in touch with hr for future opportunities.

if you want to be really persistent, block your number and call but i would let it go... they know where to find u if they want you...........

If this is a research role, I wouldn't think u will hear anything for another 2-3 weeks then, as earnings is coming/here, by then they wont even remember who anybody was that interviewed.

I was waiting 10 days for reply after 1st round, they called..apologised for delay and invited for 2nd round so chin up ;)

If they want you they know where to find you, know that sounds rough, but thats just how most people roll these days.... they could be busy, they could be a million things, but if someone wants to hire you they certainly keep you in the loop... nothing is odd in the hiring process... move on and forget about it

I recruit financial services professionals. I've seen a lot of clients go through the hurry up and stop method of recruiting new positions. Any number of things could have happened. Rather than calling HR, call the person who interviewed you. Get them on the phone and ask for a status. Bluff a little and tell them you have offers with other opportunities but are very interested in this position because of _______. You'll either find out you are still in the running or they aren't interested in competing for you. Either way, you'll get a reply. Good luck!
