Non Target -> Freshman IB internship -> What next?
I'm an incoming sophomore at a non target (for finance, but a good private uni), and I was lucky enough to get an internship at a small regional boutique this summer. Im gaining really valuable experience, and have become very comfortable with the technical aspects of IB. I also have worked extremely worked and have mantained a 4.0 so far.
I am wondering if a sophomore analyst position at a BB would be possible for me. (Not even sure EB does sophomore internships at all, but that too!).
I have everything, but as I mentioned my school is not a target. Given the IB experience and GPA, would it be worth my while to pursue it? What would be the best way to go about it? Am I too late?
Not sure it matters, but I am interview ready as well.
Thank you in advance for any answers!
it would be really hard to land a sophomore SA role at a top shop. there are very few spots, and are mainly used as a diversity pipeline (in most places).
definitely take your shot networking/applying, but plan ahead like you won’t get it. if you really like the team you’re working with now, try and leverage a return offer; but if not, maybe try to move to a firm that gives you a diversity of product experience (M&A->RX) or a more desirable coverage group.
personally, I did RX-> M&A freshman to sophomore summer, and I think it really helped me figure out what I’m passionate about in the space. maybe focus on that for next summer, and the big name shop your junior summer
