Paid and non-paid internship interview question
Hi,
In an interview, do the interviewer look favorably at a paid internship or a non-paid internship? Also, if the interviewer asks if your internship is paid or non-paid, are you obligated to answer?
Thanks.
They're not going to ask that.
WallStreetKid,
Thanks for your reply. I was asked this for three of my full-time interviews, and that's why I asked. Is it OK if I decline to reveal if the internship is paid or not? Or does it really matter?
It only matters because employers place more "weight" on paid internships. The fact that someone is putting a dollar amount on your work means they intend on using you for real things, instead of typical intern work. I don't think it matters too much as long as you explain that your unpaid internship still gave you opportunities to challenge and further yourself, but that's why employers care. I would not decline, though, I think that would be pretty frowned upon (and it would pretty much answer the question anyways).
