Personal responsibilties vs Job Search?

I have been at a fund for 3 years and my comp has been significantly below what was promised (atleast 30% underpaid) before I signed on, despite stellar reviews. Every year, there is an excuse and I get told how well I am doing but that is not reflected in comp.

Under any normal situation, I would recruit BUT I just had my first child, who has now been diagnosed with a congenital disease (haven't informed anyone in my office about this).

I am now very torn about wanting to recruit but also managing responsibilities as a father to a sick child? Would appreciate any advice, I feel very lost right now.
