Point72 Canvas Fundamental Research

Struggling to find a finance role coming from a target. Would this be a decent place to spend a few months before going to equity research? Puts at least a decent name on my resume.

Job Application for Fundamental Researcher - Canvas at Point72 (greenhouse.io)

I'm a math guy so doing this seems kind of outside my skillset.

Really want to get into the investor academy program, but the only ones that I see are in Hong Kong.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, the Canvas Fundamental Research Group within Point72 could be a good stepping stone for you. It's a well-respected name in the industry and could provide valuable experience and networking opportunities.

However, it's important to note that the nature of the work might be different from what you'd experience in a front office role. The hours might also vary, and the compensation could be different.

As for the Investor Academy Program, it's a rigorous program that provides extensive training in various areas including I-Banking, Investing, Consulting, and Data Science. It's a great opportunity if you're looking to broaden your skillset and gain hands-on experience.

However, it's worth noting that the program is quite competitive and the process can be intense. It typically involves multiple rounds of interviews, including a pre-recorded video interview, a case assignment/interview, and a Super Day.

If you're a math guy, you might find the data work and programming aspects of the program particularly interesting. But remember, it's not just about having the right skills - it's also about fit.

So, before making a decision, I'd recommend doing some more research, reaching out to people who have been through these programs, and considering what aligns best with your long-term career goals. Good luck!
