Progression

This is directed for the few and far between that have made it to the front lines out of the back office. I've been speaking with a lot of people recently; only to get mixed signals.

What's the most realistic - moving directly into the space you want, or just making steady progression every yr? I.e. - sitting on the trading floor where you can network more, etc etc.

What you have been hearing is correct, no one know what they are talking about. The reason is that there is no such thing as the right path to get from back office to front office. I did that and it was extremely random.

Solution. You have to spend more time to figuring out as an individual, what your strengths and your weaknesses are? How can you leverage your previous experience, personal connections and professional contacts to get what you want professionally? These are the kind of information about you that most people do not have prior to giving you an advice. My best suggestion is actually to hire a mentor either through Wall Street Oasis, or other sites to get more one-on-one advice.

Cliché but my advice is with percentage breakdown: Network (75%). Build Work Samples (25%). Repeat.

Hope it helps.
