Public Finance internship but I know nothing about finance
Got an offer for a public finance summer internship at a lower-tier BB (according to WSO) but I don’t really know anything about the finance industry. Come from a public policy / politics background (think lobbying & policy research) and I guess the bank thought the skills overlapped enough. Haven’t taken any business or economics courses (a couple of research statistics courses) and am wondering if I will suffer horrifically from fish out of water if I take the internship offer. Surprised I didn’t flunk the technical interview (basically used common sense and prayed) and definitely not willing to turn my nose up at a finance opp, but also don’t want to be the dumbest intern on the planet. From my research, public finance seems niche enough that it isn’t really taught at school, so I could be learning alongside everyone else but I would love some insight.
What is your masters going to be in?
Most likely getting a masters in public policy or masters of international affairs. Potentially considering urban planning as well.
Not unheard of, just play the game. 0% chance you'll be dumbest or most clueless person there.
Read a book if you are worried.
