Question for internationals with a US IB>PE background

For all of you that are working/have worked at a PE fund in the US, as well as having done IB previously, and required a working Visa:

Say you did year one in IB on your OPT and then when you applied for the H1B you got rejected, what did you end up doing? I've heard of some people who spend 6 months in another office offshore and are brought back using a L Visa, but this can't be transferred to a different employer like the H1B can. If your H1B application gets rejected, how does that affect your buy-side recruiting?
