Quit my internship, now its killing me every day
I was selected as an intern, at a company, after a long selection procedure, in which I invested a lot of time during my semester as it was a good opportunity and would have set my career afloat which is very difficult, because of my completely different major and this was my only option(this internship). But the people there were unprofessional, they did not treat their employees like humans, had long working hours, and stooped to the lowest level of talking one could imagine or bear, and gave me a warning of kicking me out, on the second day itself. They told that they have experience and can tell that, I am not fit enough to do the work(wtf?). I was under tremendous pressure and tension while working there, after this. Though the work was good. I could not take the depression for more than seven days, and mailed them about my quitting(they did not even reply after this), and went home. But now its, very difficult for me to find an opportunity before the campus placements, to make a good CV, and I am feeling miserable that I should have tried more, and have been strong, to work there, and learn things. It is killing me every day, and I cant concentrate on my placement preparation too since I left the only opportunity that I got, and invested a lot of time and energy to get there.
Not trying to kick you while you're down, but it woulda been better to consult WSO before you quit. Good luck man. Some advice for he future though, sometimes it's worth it to tough it out for 3-6 months. Were the employees only rude to you, or all the interns? Could be some type of "hazing"
the world isn't roses, never quit something until you have your next opp lined up.
sole exception would be if there's violence/harassment/illegal activity going on.
live and learn kid
Well, younquit somewhere after being there a few days. Also, you did it via email. Did you maybe talk to someone else there before quitting? What sort of role was it?
@awesomeguy123" I'm not sure where you worked because what you described sounds more like a scene from "Boiler Room" than anything I know of. Nonetheless don't beat yourself up over it. Why?
1.) You already expressed how dissatisfied you were with your internship with respect to the lack of professionalism
2.) You were already told that you did not fit what they were looking for (why they hired you if then...shaking my head)
3.) If a job makes you feel depressed it is NOT worth doing. Hell if I were a big swinging dick at GS and I hated myself because of the work environment, no amount of money could motivate me to crush my soul.
To steal a line from one of my favorite movies ("Up In The Air"), there is a scene where George Clooney tells a man who is being laid off, "I see guys like you all the time...they clock in and clock out and NEVER have a moment of happiness." "How much did they first pay you to give up on your dreams?" "Do what makes you happy."
The feeling sucks but if you were good enough to get an internship and walk through the front door and have a seat you're good enough elsewhere. Focus on what you CAN do and NOT the past.
Tap into alumni at your school, talk to your career advisers and explain the situation you're in, talk to classmates and or friends, apply via Indeed and other websites, reach out to recruiters even for temp work. Point is DO SOMETHING!
Hell volunteer if all else fails. I'm not sure what your goals are in life but figure one out and work towards it. There is no magic solution and I don't have a fool proof plan but get up, get out, and get going.
Good luck to you!
