Realised my high-school grades are incorrect post superday (S&T, BB)

After my internship superday, got an email today saying they want a follow up for next week (assuming this is a good sign). Didn't think I'd make it this far and I applied 6 months ago. Now looking back at version history, I fear I might have applied with inflated high school grades (I used a resume template and sloppily didnt look through it enough). I'm a senior in college and the rest of my CV is completely accurate (decent internships, perfect GPA from a target school)

I replied to HR email stating as much. What do you think will happen to me. I feel like such a moron.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:

  1. Honesty is Key: Since you've already informed HR about the discrepancy, you've taken the right step. Transparency is often appreciated, especially if the rest of your resume is accurate and your performance during the superday was strong.

  2. Impact of High School Grades: In the context of S&T (Sales and Trading) or BB (Bulge Bracket) roles, high school grades are generally not a critical factor, especially if you're a senior in college with a perfect GPA from a target school and solid internships. Most firms focus on your recent academic and professional achievements.

  3. Possible Outcomes:

    • Minimal Impact: If HR and the hiring team view this as an honest mistake and your overall profile is strong, they may overlook it.
    • Further Scrutiny: There's a chance HR might review your application more closely to ensure there are no other discrepancies. However, since you've proactively addressed the issue, this could work in your favor.
    • Worst Case: In rare cases, if the firm has a strict policy against any inaccuracies, it could lead to a rescinded offer. However, this seems unlikely given the nature of the error and your proactive approach.
  4. Next Steps:

    • Be prepared to explain the situation calmly and professionally if asked during the follow-up.
    • Emphasize your strong academic and professional track record, as well as your commitment to integrity moving forward.

Mistakes happen, and owning up to them is often the best course of action. Good luck with your follow-up!
