Recruiter called to ask about an internship placement ...?

As the title says -- I had a superday for a position about a week ago, and the recruiter called me today to ask if I would be interested in my first choice position in my first choice location. Given that this was my preference, I thought this was an offer and said that both were my first choice/areas I was excited to learn more about. He then said he'd give me an update in the next few weeks. Is it usually a good sign that he individually called me? I wouldn't think that he'd take time if I wasn't a top candidate, but I'd also think that they'd offer a candidate a spot as soon as they knew which team they'd potentially be in. Hoping for any insight!
