Recruiting While Unemployed for 3 months
I was an Investment Associate at an MM. I spent about 9 months there before being let go - not performance-based. I have ~5 years of experience in corporate finance (4 years in IB).
I've been extremely stressed about the job market. Getting ghosted after what I believe was a good interview, losing good opportunities to internal referrals/nepotism, etc.
It's already July now and I am kind of freaking out. I don't have any ongoing processes in the pipeline as the market has been generally bad, and I am in an awkward situation (overqualified for an Associate role, underqualified for a VP/Principal role, and unemployed).
Has anyone successfully secured an offer while unemployed recently? I am looking at all avenues (Corp Dev, VC, GE/PE, in-house M&A) and simply can't find any.
I am NYC based, went to a semi-target school, closed deals in BB IB, and have good recommendations (including from my most recent job).

no,,, feel like HH inbounds have dried up even more compared to pre-labor day
Maybe try to go back to your bank while you figure things out
Rejected...
You mean they said no?
It could take up to two years to find the right role
Any updates on your search?
Have gone thru a few back office / corp dev super days this summer - September. Not getting enough looks from investing seats
We’re all in the same boat. This is a mess
How long have you been unemployed? background ?
Genuinely in the same boat, recruiting while unemployed is kind of driving me crazy with the downtime haha. How are you spending your time on a typical day? It's been like 6 months for you now no?
Been a year for me and I’m an MD (doctor of medicine) who was over a year of ER experience.
Never should’ve left a lucrative career in surgery for this industry. What an idiot…
Been rejected from ER, IB, HF and Pharma corp roles. Even in ER they are taking candidates without a doctorate over me… maybe it’s bc I was laid off. Kinda sucks but did everything right. Good undergrad, top med school, top residency… all for what? To make $150k and a shitty bonus?
I could’ve been saving lives and helping people…
Why can’t you go back and practice medicine?
