Rejected After Getting Referred

I recently submitted an application for a lower tier BB and reached out to a close family contact who is a vp at said bank. He said he would refer me yesterday and was already talking me through some of the more complicated interview questions. I got an email this afternoon getting rejected and was wondering if I did anything wrong and how to avoid this as I recruit.

Be a good candidate on your own merit

You also have to remember that it’s not your buddy who is referring someone. For 3-4 spots on a team there’s multiple people referred so even if  getting referred gets you a leg up you still need to be very very good candidate on your own merit
