Rejected but told to keep in touch?
I recently had an interview with a $2.3B Hedge Fund and didn't get the job. However, the feedback I got from the recruiter was that they thought I had a good personality and was bright, but that the role was a little too senior for me. (which is understandable, the req. was 2-6 years and I have all of 15 months. (8 months FT, 7 months internship)
I then sent an email to the person I interviewed with simply stating that I heard the unfortunate news, but that it was an absolute pleasure to meet him, that I loved the culture that the firm emitted, and that if they continue to be unable to find someone that "fits" to fill the open position I would love to be reconsidered.
He emailed me back the following day saying it was a pleasure to meet me too, that he would be interested in talking again down the road, and to keep in touch.
That said: Do you think if they remain unable to fill the position I would have another shot at it? I'm fairly certain they only turned me down due to my relatively junior status, so I'm thinking if they continue to have difficulty filling the spot and I keep a solid relationship with the decision maker he may be willing to give me a chance.
I'll probably email him back this afternoon (he sent his response to my followup yesterday morning), and then followup again in two weeks or so to see if there has been any progress.
Do you all think it would be worth being persistent (without being annoying)? I have some other interviews coming up with another HF and a PE firm, I'm wondering if it would be smart to nonchalantly mention it, or if that would come across as trying too hard.
They didn't take you because you didn't meet their requirements. 2 years =/= 15 months. Telling them you have interviews at other PE/HF isn't going to make them give a shit. Keep in touch, this is how people get jobs in the future. It could pan out in 1 or 5 or 10 years, you never know.
I would email him asking if he could let you know if they ever have a position open up that is more junior/suited for you.
I don't think you should be trying to get a job with a required experience of 2-6 years, when you have just a little over 1.

Rejected but told to keep in touch? Sounds like you got put in the friend zone, man.
I'm guessing that's pretty much their way of saying "you're too inexperienced, but we'd love to hire you in the future." The comments above are good, like the idea about emailing for the more junior role. Just keep in touch, someone might leave/they might do well and expand head count.

I was rejected once because the position needed to be filled immediately but I was still a college senior.
I made good impression though. When I was about to graduate, the same interviewer emailed me saying they were hiring for a different position and would like to interview me again.
