Rejected from NYU. Is it over for me?

High School senior looking to pursue IB
Good stats + overall a good applicant for colleges but rejected from NYU and UPenn. Is it over for me to get into big IB? Should I apply to all targets and semi targets and pray? Accepted to Penn State if that matters.
Appreciate any advice / tough love.

Why not apply to better schools for RD, then see where you get in. It’s largely still based on your efforts to get into IB rather than the school you went to, but going to a solid school definitely helps. You likely won’t get into IB from a total noname school but if you go to a decent one, get a high gpa, and network, you can break into IB from many places

No, it’s not over for you. Take a deep breath kid.

It’s not as hard to break in as people make it out to be. Just get good grades, join a normal frat, join strong finance clubs, network, etc., and you’ll be fine.

I also got rejected from Penn and turned down NYU, Yale due to obscene cost. Even from my non-target state school, was able to go buy-side, so you’ll be fine too.

Schools like Georgetown, UVA or IU have great pipelines to IB

Plenty of Penn State kids or other big state school kids across the street. May have to hustle a little more and get into the Nittany Fund or whatever but you’ll be fine.

Yes, my friend, it is over for you. BBs and EBs only recruit every single SA from NYU and UPenn, and heard those that got accepted by NYU and UPenn just signed on-cycle offers given late last night for summer 2030. Going to require extreme networking and grit to crack in.

In all-seriousness, it is not over at all. Do a WSO and / or Google search to find the best targets / semi-targets, and start grinding those applications for the next month. If you land at a top 30 institution, with hard-work and networking, you are in great shape and you will crack in. Read through the "non-target" posts on WSO - plenty have grinded and cracked into IB, and many share advice on WSO as to how they did it. Once you get into college, the battle has just begun. Do not give up before you even start! Good luck!
