Rescheduling an interview due to an important call at my current job

Hey all,

I am sure someone else on here has been in this position, but I had an interview scheduled for tomorrow AM and just got a very important call with a client put on my calendar that overlaps with the interview time. Will the interviewing firm appreciate the fact that we all have hectic schedules and that I will need to move the interview? Or did I just completely torpedo all hope of receiving a job offer because of unfortunate timing?

Please advise ! Thanks !

My 2 cents is tell your team you need to miss the meeting. Interviews typically have precedence. Assuming you are doing an in semester internship and this is for SA recruiting, your interview is more important and your employer should understand. There should be someone else to cover for you at the meeting.

If you absolutely need to, then of course better to ask to move the interview than just miss it, but first ask your boss if you can miss the meeting.

FWIW, I am full time, started July 2023. For additional context, the culture of my firm is pretty toxic as it relates to recruiting and interviewing is a very taboo topic. Not something anyone would discuss in the office or tell anyone about (save a fellow analyst or two that you are very close with)

Yeah I would say generally don't schedule interviews during 9-5pm in the week if possible or schedule for Friday wfh if you have to. Maybe you suddenly are deathly sick or your grandpa died. Time to pull out the ol excuse book.

Hope you figured it out- good luck with the interview.
