Hard to say given most people viewing this are in the US. It's possible to break in as a Law Student in the US as an associate so if its the same in France it should be no different. Also I would tell your friend to extend his search as well.
HL and Lazard are the two best RX shops so it would be tough to get offers their especially if their Paris offices aren't large and if he is not at a top school.
I would say its possible but very hard. It depends on his experience thus far. Coming from a school in continental europe, he would be competing with finance students from Bocconi, HEC Paris, ESADE, ICADE, St Gallen etc. with multiple internships under their belt. Networking would help but it doesn't play as big as a factor as recruiting in the US.

Can't he try and join the London office or is it impossible because he has a french law degree ?
