Risky Networking?
I’m currently an A2 in an IBD product/financing group, looking to lateral to a different product/financing group which is somewhat related albeit different.
I am planning on networking with Associates/VPs/Directors at various banks to 1) get some insights into the groups and 2) get to know the team in the event of job openings. I plan on reaching out via LinkedIn for a coffee. However I noticed I have many mutual connections between those I plan on reaching out with and people in my current group.
What would be the best way to approach this, without raising any red flags at my current shop? Is there any best practise with networking while in a full time role?
Avoid anyone with contacts at your current firm as best you can, and avoid shops that people on your team worked on in the past

Walk the line VERY carefully, you do not want to risk losing your job over it
I have suspicions that I lost my job because of this.
Also, consider the fact that even if there is no overlap between the person you're networking with and your group, the person you're networking with will 99% mention to someone on his team "Yeah I just grabbed coffee with this kid looking to learn more about the group."
Can never be too careful, would recommend using a trap phone and voice scrambler(similar to what's used in hostage negotiation)
I was thinking that too, but I’ll be doing in person coffee chats. So maybe it’s better to hire a prosthetic makeup artist to alter my appearance? Idk lmk what you think

You reckon? I would’ve thought it’s pretty normal/accepted, especially if the intention is more to “learn” than network for a job, given I’m relatively junior/have no experience in the desired groups
