SA26 - No Offer, All BB/EB/MM are Done. What Now?

Title describes my situation. S&T also looks like its done. All BB/EB are done and most MM's are done. Fucked.

Plan is to email around everywhere from regional to no name banks. If not, also looking at random PE/VC/GE shops that open up. End goal is L/S but super unsure of what I should be doing now. Cannot believe it.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you should consider doing next:

  1. Expand Your Search to Regional and Boutique Banks:

    • Focus on regional boutiques and smaller firms that may still have openings. These firms often recruit later in the cycle and can provide valuable experience to position yourself for future opportunities.
    • Tailor your outreach emails to highlight your interest in their specific firm and how you can add value.
  2. Explore Off-Cycle Internships:

    • Many smaller banks, private equity (PE), venture capital (VC), and growth equity (GE) shops offer off-cycle internships. These roles can be a great way to gain relevant experience and keep your career trajectory on track.
    • Look for opportunities on job boards, LinkedIn, and through your network.
  3. Leverage Your Network:

    • Reach out to alumni, former colleagues, or anyone in your network who might have connections to firms still hiring. Networking can often uncover hidden opportunities.
    • Be proactive and ask for informational interviews to learn about their experiences and potential openings.
  4. Consider Alternative Roles:

    • If your end goal is long/short (L/S), consider roles in equity research, asset management, or even corporate finance. These positions can help you build the skills and experience needed to transition into L/S in the future.
  5. Prepare for Full-Time Recruiting:

    • Use this time to strengthen your technical skills, refine your story, and prepare for full-time recruiting. Many firms will open their full-time recruiting processes later in the year, and having a strong internship experience (even if it's not at a BB/EB/MM) will help.
  6. Stay Persistent and Positive:

    • The process can be discouraging, but persistence is key. Keep applying, networking, and improving your skills. Many successful professionals have faced similar setbacks and used them as stepping stones to achieve their goals.

Remember, the finance world is vast, and there are many paths to your ultimate goal. Keep hustling, and you'll find your way!
